I've managed to get hold of a bottom triple clamp for my T100 resurrection. It's in fairly good condition but the bolt holes are 5/16" while my old bolts are 3/8". is it acceptable to drill out the triple clamp to accept the larger bolts? Apart from the bolt hole discrepancy I can see no difference between this and my old triple clamp.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's what I would do.
Those 5/16" bolts might be hard to find anyway.

Cheers,
Bill

Why not use the bolts that it was meant for? Anytime I hear the words Pre Unit and "should i drill" it makes me shiver a bit. I have never met a bolt size i couldnt find. What is the part number of bolt you are looking for?

In this case, it's what the factory did anyway, so there is good precedent for following their lead. They increased the size of this bolt for a reason, which I suspect is to increase the clamping force and make for a more rigid front end.

For a concourse bike, you might want to find the right bolt. That is, if the judges would even know about such a thing.

Cheers,
Bill

Thanks Bill, from the parts manuals it seems the change happened around '55, well the part number did anyway. This will never be a concourse bike it's made up of too many years/models.
As an aside, the bolts that were in the old triple clamp are the original plated ones and on one of them the chrome came off as a cap! It was so inteact I was able to glue it back on (cheaper than replating). As TJD said when he saw it "They don't build 'em like that anymore"

Dave, I'm scratching the bottom of the money bucket as it is and I had a feeling that the factory had done what Bill said anyway.
