On the other hand, the whole route up there is under "Flash Flood Warning" and "Flooded Roadway" warnings. I'll have to decide how smart it is to take off into an area where I may not be able to get through. "Chance of Rain" is one thing. "Tygart Valley Impassible" is another ....

Weeeeelllllllll, the '73 BMW I used last time, when I camped right next to you, needs a little TLC. It pings big time on interstate inclines due to the carboned up piston tops and I haven't purchased new pistons and done a rebore yet. I'd love to take a few days to ride the Triumph there on back roads, but I don't have the time as I fly out early Monday morning for work and need to be back home earlier Sunday.

It's a little out of my way, but I can swing by and pick you up, Lannis! grin We can enjoy the comfort of a modern vehicle together.

Hey Bryan...I was told the guy that won it bought $1000 worth of tickets. Still a bargain since he won it.

Great weekend, great rally. Weather started out dodgy and ended beautifully, lots of bikes there, lots of parts bought, sold, and swapped. It's nice to see a swap meet, even if it's a medium-sized one, that's mostly Old Brit!

I had the usual old-man-shaking-his-cane moans about a couple things, but overall our fellow campers were fairly well behaved. It's a well-organized and attended rally.

Anyone who thinks "Oh dear, once all of our generation is gone, there will be no one to care about these old bikes or know how to work on them any more ..." should come to this rally and look around! Kids everywhere ....

The Hillbilly Convention Center builders and cooks outdid themselves, too. Already looking forward to next year.

Bill found an interesting item on the OVBSAOC facebook thing -

Ohio Valley BSA Owners Club
8 August at 23:34 ·

Ladies and gentleman, thank you all so very much for your generosity in purchasing tickets for this year's raffle bike.
The OVBSAOC rallies, our t-shirt sales, and all other club efforts are all break-even endeavors. It is only the profit we manage to generate from the raffle bikes which keeps the club in existence. For this we thank you, for your interest has kept us going for 37 years now.
It is our pleasure to report that Robert McKnew, from Mabscott, West Virginia is the winner of the 2018 raffle bike. Robert is a life-long owner and enthusiast of BSA motorcycles, and purchased tickets for the bike in honor of his father, who passed away just this past June.
Pictures to follow soon.

Well, I consider my raffle tickets a donation to the club also. Interesting that the winner last year told me he had bought $100 dollars worth a year for something like 20 years. Or some variation of that. At the time he told me (when I was somewhat paying attention) it seemed it had amounted to a bargain price for a restored B33. The year before I think it was a Victor. Maybe less of a bargain?

That's about what I've done. I'll buy a sheaf somewhere in the spring, then at MidOhio or the next place I find them, and then at the Summer Rally; been doing that for 20 years now. When I win that B33 or Super Rocket, it'll be worth it, and meanwhile it's worth it anyway because it goes to a good charitable cause ....

I forgot to mention that you were right about that "subsidence" thing at MidOhio. I thought it was "subsidience", but it ain't!

This looks like an event that I have to do soon along with BIBR and Mid Ohio. Just doesn't seem to be much like it up here in New England.

It would be great to have you there. It's laid back, there'll be a lot of people you know, I'm sure, and it's just old-fashioned fun, especially when someone comes back from the swapmeet to the campsite with some piece of ... junk ... which somehow gets us all excited .... ! There's no explaining it.

And the food's great!
