(A) Too bad somebody chromed the drum.

(B) Pieces of the drum have already broken off of it.

(I have been told this is a common problem with these early "pie crust" brake drums. )

The seller does point out these issues, however I think common problem you may be referring to is not the lip of the drum but the small ears for each spoke hole on the drum. I have often seen that part broken.

"Broken" is BROKEN, Boomer.

I have also seen these drums broken where the flandge meets the drum, because the casting had too sharp a corner at that point.
A fracture develops there.

And a SUCKER is a SUCKER, Boomer.

What's the saying? "A fool and his money are soon parted."

If he had waited he would have found one NOT broken, NOT chromed,
and probably for half or a quarter of that price.

Definition of sucker, "a gullible or easily deceived person".

The eBay auction stated that the drum was chromed and was damaged, so no deception there. As far as gullible there were 16 bids so that's a lot of fools being gullible bidders. The 8" brakes are seldom available and doing a search one sold in June for $370 and it wasn't a "pie crust". There's one "pie crust" or "scalloped" listed right now with a start price of $499 and has a bid with two days to go and it appears to be missing the shoes and springs and with a damaged scoop.

I think the demand is more the reason for the price then someone being duped.
