Good evening fellows. The question is one I've always thought about since 1967 and it has taken until now to ask.

Both my Golds, my first one, 1732 MK, engine No. 5036, purchased in 1967 and my present one since 1969; 1959 283 HJH had/have their speedo on the right and the rev counter on the left (apart from 1732 MK in late 1967 when I sent her up the road 'big time stylie' and the speedo nearly ended up as part of my anatomy).

So, gentlemen, how do you hang? Please, no 'Oh! Matron' replies! Or.... maybe....

We are sensible, aren't we? Remember, you have to be an adult to own a Gold....

i would think your preference for locating either gauge would be determined by how you must route their drive cables.
Other than that, what difference would it make?

No difference at all Irish Swede. But an awful lot of Golds I have seen have the rev counter on the right.

I am interested if BSA policy was ....

1960 USA East Coast BSA sales brochure for the full line of bikes shows a picture with the 8000 RPM Rev Counter on the on the left. The 1961 USA BSA full line brochure shoes the Rev counter on the right. In 1961 the 140 MPH Speedo was introduced.

BSA Sales Brochures
The Pre 1955 BSA Gold Star maintenance book shows a Rev Counter on the left.

Where is Charles Falco and the Gold Star Buyer's Companion when you need him...
and to some it does make a difference...

Thank you for your replies Magnetoman and Toolbox Dave.

By the look of it BSA seemed to change direction like the wind.

Sorted, I feel.

Graham.

Speedo left, tach right, just like the illustration. My cables also dictate that arrangement.

56 DB for reference

Thank you Rich B.

I'm thinking of being P.C. and put one in front of the other, (or is that one behind the other?)

Graham.
