Has anybody got any experience with Skinner's Motorcycle Shop in Opelika, AL? I need some engine work and don't know anything about them.

Reading my post I can see it may not have been clear. I meant I don't know anything about Skinners.

I've got a "70 A65

The engine is disassembled. I need to replace and ream the main bush.

Don't know about Skinners, but this guy is supposed to know his stuff about BSA bottom ends.

I've had good experiences with Skinner's buying used BSA parts. I have no knowledge of what other services they may provide; being from the Northeast, I wouldn't shop for services that far away. I've heard many good things about E&V; they can get and do anything you need for an A65.

Mr Skinner has been a regular at BIBR for many years, always brings some beautiful bikes.
He's been in the business, and racing, for many years. I've never dealt with him, but you don't stay in this business for very long without doing it right.
Mind you, BSAs are another matter. You gotta have an expert machinist on staff to deal with them.

I have known John for years from the BITBRR and stopping by his shop coming home from Barber. That said being you are in GA. I would ring up Beno Rodi's in Winder GA east hotlanta.
770-867-1676 full machine shop and RF Whatley on this site mite pop in with info.

Thanks. I Know there are a few places, including Rodi's, on the north side of Atlanta. I'm south of the city and Opelika is closer & easier to get to so thought I might give them a call if some on here could recommend them. I'm just going to give Beno a call and brave the traffic.

Skinners?! Years ago we used to get some nice speed parts from him. Cams, carbs, all sorts of stuff! For all Brit bikes..
He used to campaign a Triumph and race it at Daytonas short track 25 years ago or so..
. Bring you work to who ever is closest I guess,,,but Skinners knows his stuff!

Both Skinner's and Rodi's were original Brit bike dealers from back in the day. I know Rodi was a BSA dealer from ~1960 on. Skinner (I believe) was a Triumph dealer. Another good one is James Hiter in Bogart, GA, chief mechanic and owner of Triumph of Atlanta.

Unlike today's "parts sellers", dealerships had access to a lot more information and built up collections of service tools and specialized machines. I know that Beno attended every BSA training school taught in Atlanta from 1960 on. That's more than a half-century of accumulated BSA knowledge and training. Skinner's is probably much the same. Any fool can "Talk the Talk". But you simply can't stay open that long unless you are able to "Walk the Walk".

How anyone can see a shop open 3-5 years as equal of these 3 guys in experience or capability is beyond me.

PS. At age 68 I retired from actively working on Brit bikes.

You going to Barber in Oct. ? My tickets ordered camping in lot B. Missed the last 2, weather issues. Really looking forward to seeing the museum annex. I did have a great time last year the week after Barber, spent a week at TWO Suches with great weather.

Stay safe and remember when you are over the hill you just pick up speed Enjoy you time off Geoff

I'll be there as well. Look for the maroon Ford conversion van and join the party.
