I’m gutted because family health issues require me to stay at home. I shall sorely miss the Rabbit rallies with their laid-back atmosphere and fine companionship set in the lovely countryside bordering Kent and East Sussex. I shall particularly miss the fish and chip suppers in Rye with all our mates and ride-outs to places like the Romney Marsh and the weird shingle (pebble) wilderness of Dungeness.
However, the East-Kentites will still be represented by Graham and Ed although sadly Young Flossie won’t be there due to a clash with a sailing event.
Here’s hoping that Howie’s presence doesn’t cause the heavens to open up and you all have a great time!

Well that never happened, hot dry, and cloudless blue skies for the whole weekend! We went to the Rabbit rally, but it ended up as the "Howie is Broken" Rally

Friday lunch time and I am stuck at work, I have to meet Howie at Reading services on the M4 in fifteen minutes, and I am not even at home yet! so I drop Howie a text, telling him to stay put, and I get a wiggle on, and do my best to get to Howie as soon as I can. I end up being thirty minutes late, but Howie is cool and we are then soon on the road heading south east, towards Icklesham, the Robin Hood pub, and the 2018 Rabbit Rally. And as we headed to the east. the threatened thunder storms dissipated as the Friday traffic increased , and our speeds slowed down, until somewhere round the M25 it all stopped, so a snap decision was made to change direction, leave the M25, and use the smaller side roads to make our way to the rally and cool beer.

The ride itself was nothing special, and a short time later we were pulling up at rally central, to get signed in, where Graham was waiting, and pointed us to a far corner of the camping field, where we found Geoff, Sara, Mr Ed, Matt, Sammie, Brian, and Alan all set up and relaxing, it was time to throw up the tents, and open a wine or two, the weekend had begun.

My old Matchless looking fine now owned by Geoff and Sara, although the bike decided not to play ball over the weekend, somehow the required sparks needed to run had fallen out in the grass, and could not be found, so it sat in majestic disgrace all weekend next to Geoff and Sara's tent.

Saturday morning arrived as hot as Saturday, so in an effort to find a cooler breeze we headed to wild bareness of Dungeness, I love Dungeness, and if I could afford to buy a place there I would certainly try, but money is only one of the hoops you have to jump through to be able to live out there, it is a strange fantastic place.

It’s been a most un-English summer this year, marvellous sunny weather and no rain for weeks and weeks. So knowing that all my motorcycling mates were sunning themselves on the Kent-Sussex border at the Rabbit rally was particularly galling!
So, I took a couple of pain-killers (for my cricked neck) got on my bike and took myself for a very short ride down to the seashore at our end of Kent where I spent half an hour paddling in the sea.
Here’s a picture of the beach – a bit different from Dungeness!

Thanks Kev, very thoughtful of you.

Have you got any more pics of the camp and the ride-out to show us!

How did Geoff and Sara get home on the busted Matchless?

I've watched Geoff and Sara help get MY busted bike back on the road, and I've watched them get their OWN (very) busted bike back on the road, so I'm sure they figured out something by the time the weekend was over ... whether it be on the bike or conjuring a trailer out of magic ....

In reality it is physically not possible for me to ride the distance to Icklesham (aprox 240 miles) so they had long ago planned to take me & the bikes etc in their van.
And so, the busted Matchless went home the same it arrived - in the back of Geoff & Sara's van along with my Enfield and our camping gear thumbsup

Well, I used to give people a hard time for not riding to rallies, but I've since learned that there are several very good reasons why some people should drive to rallies.

1) They're setting up a nice Hillbilly Convention Center for me to relax under, stay out of the rain, cook under, etc.

2) They're bringing their family with them to get them interested in Britbikes.

3) They're hauling extra bikes for people to ride who don't have one, or for a friend who would like to go but doesn't have time to ride.

4) They or a friend have issues that prevent them from riding a long way, and they're helping them out.

5) They're racing or competing in an event when they get there, and their street bike isn't right for that.

Come to think of it, I've been both the source and beneficiary of all of these except #1 (benefit only!). But if none of those are appropriate, I'm riding!

Icklesham Grist mill, Geoff's dad used to pick cherries here when he was just a lad, so this year we made sure we found it. It now belongs to a certain Mr Macca, bass player with the Beatles.

As for Geoff's G12 Matchless, I cursed it. it started perfectly for me, but then later it would not play ball for Geoff, and it seems the sparks had fallen out somewhere, or maybe the hedge fairies stole them.

It was a great weekend, with good mates, good food, and good drink, the weather was unreal for a small rock in the Atlantic. beerchug
