The frame and all frame parts were glass bead blasted and then painted professionally. Most of the frame parts are back and I'm just waiting for the oil tank and toolbox. I have installed new bushings in the swing and a tapered roller steering bearing.

Most of the fasteners had been changed to metric nuts and bolts so had to order a lot of fasteners. Cadmium plating is forbidden in Sweden and to ship them to UK for plating wasn't an option I went for zinc plating. My plater got the parts in a duller grey finish rather than the bright silver and I'm really happy with this. I even bought a DIY zinc kit from the UK and did a few parts myself, my result got really bright silver but I guess you learn how to get it the way you like after a while. Being able to modify bolts or other parts and then throw them in the plating solution is hard to beat though. All chrome was sent away and replated.

I'm now in the process of putting the bike back together. Just finished lacing the new valanced Excel rims with butted stainless spokes and fitted Avon AM6 and AM9 tires. Soon I will have a rolling chassis

This is really beautiful work, accompanied by a fantastic sequence of photographs. Well done, and congratulations.

I can only aspire to this quality as I rebuild my 59. At least I start, as you have done, with a Pearson crank. And in my case, the rocker box rebuilt by Phil as well.

Thank you for sharing.

Hi
Looking great,
It makes me want to get back to my GS replica project. getting fed up with working on other peoples bikes

May I make this observation?
On the finned sump plate, is there a magnet on the plug?
If so the plate should be fitted with the plug furthest from the oil pump pickup
I had a problem with a B32 where the magnet kept the ball in the pump stuck down
This did not happen straight away but several months after I had completed the bike build

(lesson learned)
John

NYBSAGUY, Brian Brown, ducati2242 Thank you very much!

chaterlea25, Thank you for observing this! I would never have thought about it, you may just have saved me a rebuild. Much appreciated!

Cheers/ Chris

Trophy . In the picture above have you got your inlet valve timing correct . I might be totally wrong but it looks 180 out .

Christoffer, Did that bike come with chromed Ballofix petrol taps? Ballofix is normally used as water taps.

Hello Morgan! We sure are neighbours, I live in central Göteborg. Would love to come by and see your bikes and maybe harass you with some questions about Goldies :-)

And yes you are quite correct about the Ballofix “petrol taps”. The previous owner wasn’t so concerned about aesthetics. Don’t worry these won’t go back on the bike

Cheers/ Chris

ducati. I double checked the cam opening and closing with a degree plate today and it seems to be in order for 2426 cams (I have them both inlet and exhaust). You got me quite worried smile Glad you did though, better to double check now when the engine still not finished.

Cheers/ Chris

Sorry trophy . I have the same cams and pearson crank in mine but the oil groves in the face of the camshafts face each other in a sort of / \ with the timing set. That is what threw me with yours as it is more \ \ but they may not be cut the same .

No worries Ducati! As I said I rather check it now than to late. One of the cams are stamped “46” and the other with the full part number “65-2446”. My guess is that one is repop and the other one original.

Hi All,
There were some repro 2446 cams around a while ago that had the timing marks in the wrong place
I was told about the mistake by the seller who included a correction instruction
so Its always better to check with a degree wheel, also there were 10 degree advance crank pinions for the 350 engines

@chaterlea25 Good information, thank you!

Onwards and upwards! The restoration proceeds and the wheels are finally fitted. A good feeling to sit on the bike and be able to roll it out of the garage for the first time in almost a year. The gearbox is assembled and I have mocked up my new clutch. The final gear got a new brass bushing installed and reamed to fit my main shaft. The bike had a Triumph/ BSA three spring clutch installed when I bought it but it was extremely worn and none of the cush drive parts were correct for my bike. It was a mish-mash of parts so I decided to upgrade to a Bob Newby belt drive. A bit pricey but what a quality, wow! Both mudguards were badly treated, rusted and previous owner had over tighten all the bolts leaving big dents. New ones were ordered from Auto Cycle.

Chronometric speedometer and tachometer were cleaned and treated with a new lubricant. The bezels were professionally painted and then I sprayed them white on the inside with a rattle can. Made new paper gaskets and fitted new chrome ring, O-ring and glass. I also picked up my freshly painted oil and tool box from the painter. I visited the painter a few weeks ago and put the transfers on before clear coated.

Out in the cold spring weather of Sweden. Still missing a carburettor, the bike came with a Concentric MKII but I really don't want to fit that. It just looks so wrong. The sensible would probably be to fit a 1038 but they seem very hard to find, especially in good nic. My heart says GP though :-)

Hi Chris,
Looking good
Some minor points for you to consider
I am presuming you fitted the circlip to the gearbox sprocket oil seal?
The three bolts holding the inner primary case to the crankcase should be drilled and lock wired
The kickstart cotter should be fitted with the nut to the front so the kicking pressure acts on the thicker end of the pin
The seat support rubber buffers are not yet fitted
The front brake torque arms are straight, I have never seen one with a bend as on your bike??

Regards
John
