I've used Smith copies for more than 25 years. They work well, much better than the originals, but why can't they make them the same height as the originals?
They must have made them for more than those 25 years, someone must have asked them this question before?
Now I don't know who makes them, but I presume it's EMGO. There are importers and vendors on this board, maybe they can answer me why.
Or better still, have them do something about it.

That's simple. What multiples of 10,000 would you like to buy?

Ok I get it. I didn’t think we talked that kind of volume...
I need a tachometer to match the speedometer, and was a little annoyed with having to buy a pair.
On the other hand, I’m really pleased that they’re available at all, especially with the high quality at these very humane prices.
Please disregard my comment but a man is allowed to wish.

I have been told they (EMGO) use the same body for a Japanese motorcycle speedo / tach hence why the body is taller. Will they change it? Probably not...

They (the Emgo items) are very good value and they do work as well or better than the originals. I didn't know they were a different height, only having bought them in pairs.

If anything other than a blank space is visible here, something's wrong.

Yes they are not the same as originals. Fine for Triumph owners but for A50 / A65 that use the rubber cup (and OIF) models they will not fit. .

Not a problem with the OIF bikes as the cup can be modded, but earlier ones require some sorting out.

Triumph owners are notorious cheapskates... The guys whose bikes I mend are bad, but I'm worse!
But seriously, £189,- will buy you 4 Emgo's. I've been looking at the Puca's, but on a restoration nothing but original instruments will do. On a simple rider, the cheaper option wins. The Puca's sort of falls between chairs as far as I'm concerned. Possibly very good, but won't help you win a prize, and how high a quality do you need.
To quote Kevin Cameron, "a motorcycle is an engine, two wheels and a place to sit."
Everything else is just garnish.

"Triumph owners are notorious cheapskates "! Matter of perspective, I suppose. Obscene amounts are being spent on my " ad infinitum " Triumph race project while my abode becomes more, er, "rustic "!

Ime, the "Emgo-types" fit OIF rubber cups fine, I've had a speedo./tacho. pair so mounted (in a Triples Rule bracket) on my T100 for about fifteen years. Otoh, as well as problems on dry-frame Beesas, the "Emgo-types" are too deep for T160's and '69/'70 triples.

They'll likely be too deep for '79-on Triumphs too (T160 mounting) but some owners will still buy 'em because they don't realise the speedo 'n' tacho aren't supposed to sit on the bottom of the mounting 'til the vibes have buggered 'em ...

Hth.

Regards,
