I restored a few BSA's in my day and lurked around the BSA forum for years. I know little of AJS/Matchless. I met a guy at a car show and we got to talking bikes. He has what I think is a 52 AJS model 20. Its a twin 500 and he wanted to know if I was interested in trading a BSA runner for the AJS I am kinda out of the restoring business so I have no interest but this is a fairly complete bike that has not run since 1954 ( last PO registration). An old man sold it or gave it to this guy. The only missing parts appear to be a broken kick start shaft and kicker, the chain and the speedometer. Handle bars or likely not original and the mufflers may be different. He says the motor turns over but I couldn't get to where I could verify that. I got an engine # , a fork # and what appears to be a frame #. The bike is located in Eastern NC. Rust on chrome parts, oxidation on motor but tin is pretty good. Seat needs recovering. This is for someone that has a hole in their collection or is just aching for an AJS twin. Bike needs to be completely gone through and I don't know the availability of parts for these bikes. Are parts available like BSA and Triumph? Is it a $1000 bike?

If anyone is interested I can give you the guys name and number. Contact me by private e-mail.

I would think that price is pretty decent for a complete (mostly) original bike. Parts for these bikes are out there and they have an excellent owner's club. Do you have some pictures you could post up? It's too far away for me, but I am sure it will find a good home.

I took a few pics but it was crammed back in his shop so it was hard to get anything decent without moving a car and a bunch of other stuff. It 's been so many years since I posted a pic that I have totally forgotten how, I would have picked it up a bike like this ten years ago as a project. I like the fact that it has a center main bearing....something a BSA twin needs.
