Hi All

I'm considering buying a 1967 A65 Lightning. I'm not familiar with BSAs so would appreciate some advice from you guys. I'm used to Triumphs where the engine and frame numbers are the same, but I understand this is not always the case with BSAs - is that right? This bike has a frame number of A65LA14894 and an engine number of A65LA1488. Do you think this is the bike's original engine?

Non matching numbers stopped earlier than 67, so that engine did not leave the factory in that frame.

Thanks Kommando. What a shame. It's a nice bike.

Will: nothing WRONG with non matching bike. Only the value drops. Ride is the same. If you want a rider, offer accordingly! resale is tougher too.

I agree with Sluggo. Would not be a concern for me. After a 8-10 mile road-test if all sounded and felt right go for it.

The best Beezers and Triumphs iv'e ridden were non matching number bikes, the manufacturers seldom got both items right in the same year!

Lamas are bigger than frogs.
No room for sanity here.

Both my '66 A65L and my '67 A65L have matching engine and frame numbers. I would enjoy them just as much if they didn't.
