Iron MAC or Alloy swing-arm MAC?
- Might make a difference.

My VM (late type gearbox obviously), mainshaft sprocket nut is 1/2" BSF (16TPI) Uses a 7/16" Whit spanner.
My two other mainshafts: Iron MAC and iron MSS / KSS use a 1/2" BSC 20TPI (yes, cycle thread but 20TPI not 26TPI) Nut is smaller than BSF type- measures 3/4" across the flats

Question is, did they change the thread type between the iron models and the Alloy models.
Hmm, another veloconundrum.

I reckon if you measure the TPI you'll be able to ID it, -check if your mainshaft uses cycle or BSF.

(Sorry it's not more conclusive, but, well, it IS a Velo after all!)

My original earlier type nut is a locknut type, not castellated or nyloc but slit, taper-threaded, (Dunno what you'd call it really).

Now I've re-read this, -you do mean the front gearbox mainshaft sprocket nut don't you?
Or did you mean the PRIMARY CHAIN front sprocket nut?

Alloy Head - Ridgid 1952! 1/2-20 US fine thread lock nut fits with no binding. ONly diff. is 60 vs 55 degree thread angle I believe.

Hey who needs locknuts when you're putting UNF on a BSC!
(Just kidding Rocket-man) :-)
