Hi All,

Wondering how much horsepower a BSA Oil-in-Frame frame will handle.

Thoughts?

Something ridiculous. I had a 900 ninja that was crashed by a prospective buyer. I'm not crotch rocket guy, so no interest in rebuilding. But having that low mileage motor with 140 bored horses on the shelf is nagging at me. So I thought, 'hay, what if I put that in to a later Commando frame or an OIF? I expect it would ruin the commando frame and me along with it, but with some reinforcing the OIF might survive. They are also plentiful and cheap. I know its a terrible idea to the purist or even the average brit bike enthusiast, but I have a lot of proper British Motorcycles already. I wouldn't feel bad modifying an OIF that was unloved and rusting in a friend's backyard.

Hmmm...... We have had many runs on a straight track with 100+ hp in a stock dry frame. Had to build a swing arm to handle it. But the ninja weighs more, has a radiator etc. You will want a better front end with real brakes and probably a bunch of reinforcing. Will it even fit! Sounds a bit wacky to me but I am a geezer PRT

lol, i've been thinking of putting a triumph 650 into a 250 ninja frame:

these have been around forever and are as common as dirt here.

the OIF is weak around the rear-triangle-to-downtube connection, and springs leaks here and there. lots of people have welded in bracing on them, which apparently solves the problem.

Well, maybe the Triumph Ninja and the BSA Ninja should become a reality!

I wouldn't worry about the frame leaking oil, because it would be dry, but cracking isn't good. Adding an extra 90 or so Hp won't help the cracking.
