Hello everyone, I'm looking for a tachometer cable for my 59 DBD34 scrambler with clubmans instrument mounts and exhaust. My inner cable has parted in two. I checked vintagebritishcables.com and their site is a bit vague, but they list the cable as being 3' 2" whereas mine is 3' 5". British sources also show it as 3' 5". I guess it won't make much of a difference as long as the cable inner and outer are the right distance, right?

Any advice on sources? Is the 'hive mind' of the opinion that vintage british cables is the go-to source?

thanks,

Kevin

Kevin. For my 61 DBD34 clubman I did use VintageBritishcables and i did use what was published in the Smiths OEM BSA cable lookup catalogs. They fit perfect and are the exact fit to what was required. VBC has been doing this for a very long time and their cables are the real deal and very top notch. I did have them add the Armor to the top of the cable at the Tacho and Speedo mounting points and down 12 inches. And It looks very cool. I originally thought that the armor was for the Tach drive end to protect the cable from the exhaust heat but after talking to VBC I was informed that this was not the case and the Armor was for the top of the cables so that they do not get squished or rub in the steering triples crevices. I would believe what is on the site. and if you have any questions call them they are very friendly and helpful. I do not see a 3.5 inch tacho cable option for any BSA motorcycle listed in the Smiths catalog. I also found it very interesting to read about the different cables for the different Smiths gauge types.

Dave

I resolved the exhaust heat problem from another angle, 90 degrees anticlockwise to be exact

Hi Dave,

Thanks very much for your time in answering my question. If I may impose on you a bit more, do you have their phone number? I looked at their site and I can't seem to find a phone. I did email and haven't gotten a reply.

Kevin

Ok, I got a reply back on my email. Andy is out of town for a bit.

Oh, and Andy, bitching looking bike man! Love the kickstarter, PWK carb, and spindle bolt. What kind of spindle is that?

If you are referring to the swing arm spindle it is from Barleycorn engineering http://www.barleycorn.co.uk/
