Since I have to make clutch housings to adapt the starter for the R3 and T150 I decided to move the starter location. The starter motor and solenoid have been swapped so the motor is closer to the cylinders. This leaves more room for the carbs so the bowls do not have to be changed to the drainless type. Also, the clearance to the gearbox web is increased so the cases no longer have to be modified to mount the starter.
This is the new adapter:

Here is the prototype off the mill:

The rear breather stub hole has to be bored. The slight goldish tint in the starter adapter is because this one is magnesium. I did not have a large enough piece of aluminum laying around. Both pieces will be in aluminum.
The shop has to clean up the tool paths but there will still be some machining marks. One possibility is to have them sand blasted so it looks more like the casting. Going over it with a rubber wheel would eliminate the machine marks but leave it with a satin surface.
The carbs drains are close but at least not touching the solenoid. A nylon tie wrap around the backbone and centre carb gantry stub would keep the carbs from sagging. A rigid mount between the gantry and head would eliminate the problem also. It would also eliminate any air leaks from all those connections.
At least this starter installation does not require shaving the T150 gearbox flange as the T160 starter and housing did.
I decided to make ring gears since these are also in short or non-existant supply.
