Some of these things are almost funny, that is aside from the wasted $ part cost and the shipping. This is a good example of that situation where it isn't worth the shipping cost to return it, so you just swallow and move on. Imagine a fellow without an old one to look at............. which is why you might order one in the first place! Gee,... I wonder why my headlight always flickers !!! It know, i must be that darn Boyer acting up....

I see the problem.

This one doesn't have the "Dim" setting; only "Flicker" and "Off".

I'd get my money back! You at least gotta have "Dim".

If I'm seeing this correctly, the problem is the lack of springs, right? Could it be that they expect you to use the springs from your old piece? (Which makes little sense because the springs lose their resiliency - do they even come off?) Can you get them to send you the springs? Or, go to the hardware store and find springs of the correct dimensions.

Here's my 2 cents: A spring-loaded butt-contact is a crappy design from the get-go. I got rid of mine years ago in favor of a sealed-beam automotive headlamp. If you go that way, get the heavy-duty lamp that's rated for pick-up trucks, they're a bit more shock-resistant. Or, get one of those halogen conversion kits. People say you get a brighter light and better beam pattern with one of those. I don't care because I hardly ever ride at night. Either way, that crappy connector is out of the picture for good.

Why do we keep doing the same thing, expecting different results when the correct originals are available?

Oh,.......... Got any correct original TOGA mufflers laying around ? Not sure where you are finding original parts that are not reproduced items. I guess you mean correct original used parts, which is what I did as you can see. Hope it doesn't bother folks too much but I plan to post every single one of these money wasting items I run across.

I think it's great idea to inform people of ill fitting parts. Yes, some parts aren't available original, but there are some companys making decent aftermarket.

There is only 1 supplier of smith cables I trust, Smiths Cables from Canada. Actually ruined an original speedo using a cheap repop cable.

I agree with K.C., and I will also post notices any bad fitting parts I unfortunately have bought.

... Hey Bill,
Do those guys in Canada also make or supply front brake cables for a '48 AJS Model 18?

I want to buy two cables at least.
And I haven't been able to find anyone who has 'em, or can get 'em... Nor do I trust my cable "making" abilities....
Brett

They have lots in stock. If not, they will make to your specs. Helped me custom make for my Atlas. Very good to deal with and stand behind their products

Hello K.C. we're sorry you had issues with our product, The springs on 554602 in these are quite easy to lose and just as easy to replace. We have sold 157 of those light sockets last year with no issues.

We are also disappointing that after offering to pay for shipping and handling on replacement parts that you chose to post on BritBike instead of having the problem resolved directly.

We hope you won't have any further issues with our parts.

Regards -Dom at JRC Engineering Inc

I went back and read all of the posts on this subject and I did not find one where KC identified the supplier of all of the poor quality parts. I, for one, appreciate hearing the feedback on KC's experieces trying to make repop parts fit when doing a build. I also understand that suppliers can only sell what they get from those companies that are making the parts. This forum is a good place to share these experiences and provide fair warning to those who are facing similar needs.

Here is the evidence Doc...from KC's original post on this thread. Look at the orange card and you can see JRC Engineering. Not taking sides, just pointing that out for you.

Thanks Jon, I did not think to enlarge that photo and read the tag. I can see why they would be upset at seeing their logo associated with that socket.

I also have had a few items from JRC that were sub standard through the years but this company is one that really responds well to it's dealers with any complaints . Especially when Nick is involved. BT.

Am I reading that right, the socket had no springs and the supplier offered replacement parts with free shipping but it was declined ? (by golly)

I buy a lot of parts and IIRC, at this point in time I have close to $5000 of parts not fit for immediate use so one $15 part would be a non issue especially if the seller offered replacement. (JMO)

...my orders are international ones, so is a pain when arrive wrong; the last one few days ago arrived wrong but is nothing to do you cannot send it back to USA or UK then they send it again and pay again the customs taxes!
However, I appreciate the effort to get all possibly right like with Walridge and in this case JRC.
Also the new part looks good regarding that older part, only the springs are missing; possibly an error when the manufacturer operator assembled it, so the shop offered to provide the springs at no charge and that s good in my book.

I don't believe that KC was bashing JRC. From what I read he was complaining about the generally poor quality of today's reproduction parts. JRC themselves agree with that problem and they will tell you that they are doing what they can to deal with the it. I still appreciate his feedback and I agree that it would be helpful to have a list of repop parts that frequently cause problems. If I know in advance that I need special muffler brackets, I will know to include them when I order the mufflers rather than having a week long delay to get all of the required parts in two shipments with double the shipping cost.
