So sorry to hear about Diggers passing he was indeed one of a kind.Lots of contributions to the sport came from him.
The #57 is dear to me as I own #57 Louis Kramers ex flattrack racer.
Louie had #57 in 1958 and Digger got it in 1962.

BSAing you

Being an avid reader of things pertaining to British motorcycles, blokes like Neil Keen ( and his engine builder, Denis Mahan ) became heroes to me. Along with "Bugs" Mann, Sammy Tanner, Gary Nixon, Van Looney, Al Gunter et al !
I eventually obtained a book " Grand National " by Joe Scalzo. And more of this fascinating American aspect of motorcycle history became apparent !
A great cast of larger than life characters, more than I was already aware ! Marshall Helm, a mortician, "grave digger", hence "Digger " !
A story for another time, " Rembrandt " ,aka Billy Al Bengston, who was an artist !
These blokes will never be surpassed ! An incomparable era ! Vale, " Digger "!

Digger continued being active in supporting motorcycling, especially dirt track. He donated thousands of dollars to track promoters, up-and-coming youth riders and vintage rallies. He was one of Eddie Mulder's main supporters for his dirt track series. A lot of the prize purse for these events came right out of Digger's pocket. He helped John Mulreen, and continued when Eddie Mulder took the reigns of the Lake Cachuma Vintage Rally. Both John and Eddie were able to supplement the cost of the weekend and the seven meals they serve. Digger was always there to help those people who did things for this sport.
