Elk Grove Village is a very nice community, a western suburb of Chicago.

Find a place where you can lock up the bike when you aren't using it, and DON'T RIDE IT IN CHICAGO TRAFFIC.
It;s a mad-house.

Look up "Chicago Norton Owners Club," a home for ALL British bikes and their owners in this area.
You may find more help and information from members of that group.
One of them may even live in Elk Grove Village, or nearby.

Perhaps he will save up for the BSA International in (you know where) in 2019. bigt

Wade, meanwhile I have a friend who plays in a band based out of Chicago. Remind me to tell you all about it so you are properly entertained while "working" in the Windy City. wink

Can everybody stop the "wise guy" stuff just this once, and actually HELP Wade on this?

Actually, I thought that the "Wise Guy" vs. "Helpful" ratio was surprisingly low, per BritBike norms.

Just about every piece of advice (starting with yours) is good advice in one way or another - work hard in Chicago, save your money for important things. I know a band in Chicago, I'll hook you up. DON'T ride in Chicago, it's horrible and your bike will get stolen. Hook up with the Chicago Norton Club.

What's wrong with that? Probably nobody on the list lives near there ....

I have a piece of advice about Chicago, but it's too late for that .... !

I stopped believing for a little while this morning. Journey is really going to be upset.

Wade: Can you say what the time frame is that you are going to be in the area?
There are some smaller swapmeets in towns north west of Chicago.
https://www.cyclefish.com/motorcycle_events/ILLINOIS
I've not known anyone from the BBC http://www.britishbiker.net/ for too many years to think about, but they put on a good rally when I did.
This is now a combined event http://www.roadamerica.com/buy-tickets/rockerbox-motofest-featuring-ahrma-vintage-racing.html as just Rocker Box it self out grew its' location on the eastside of Milwaukee.
On Sunday, it is less crowed for the just the races. You can walk around the Pit area and if not busy, most crews will take the time to talk to you.
A fellow racing Manx Nortons is very nice and let my son sit on one his bikes. (my other laptop died and I lost his information)
Sometimes people from ADVRIDER.COM do a Meet and Greet or a Garage Night. Check Regional Forum, then Central.
Going from Galena, ILL. up the Mississippi River to La Crosse, is a good ride. Don't just stay on 35, go up the Hollow and Coolie roads.
As I said a time frame will make it easier to bring events going on to your attention.

Chicago Blues, deep dish Chicago Pizza, lunchtime people watching on the lakeside beach.... The list of the more obvious is no doubt endless.

I also have a photographer friend up there, maybe I'll ask her what's up in Chi-town. She & some of her friends ride scooters so maybe theres a hook-up for some rides! smile

I'd be looking at architecture in the area. FLW worked up there I'm pretty sure.

Morries Place is in Ringwood, Ill. It is in a new set up, having moved from Richmond Ill. http://morriesplacecycle.com/
T. C. is still at Sunset Motors. http://www.nortonhogslayer.com/
I haven't been to The Shop since they moved from Bay View. https://onmilwaukee.com/market/articles/theshopsouthmilwaukee.html
I went there looking for parts for a Monza JR. He gave me info on a shop in Florida that had them.
The Shop and Fuel Cafe were part of the start of Rocker Box. They are involved.

Great great town! My wife and I lived there in the late 80's. Awesome street food - hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, deep dish pizza. Great architecture, cool neighborhoods, Lakeshore Drive. Have fun!

AHRMA roadracing at Elkhart Lake, WI in June, then Gingerman (just around the lake) the following weekend if you are still in the area...

AHRMA Schedule

Those two tracks are equidistant from Chicago - approx. 150 miles

Just got my contract start date and I will be starting work on the 23rd of April and I'll be there for 8 to 10 weeks. So about July sometime will be the end of the job. .... Sounds like a lot going on so I'll be busy on the weekends again bigt

Also Ive acquired a new addiction here in Texas and that is Pinball. I read somewhere that Chicago has some good Pinball machine activity.... I'll have to look into that.... If work keeps up like this I'll be getting me a machine for the house smile

These folks used to put on a fantastic swapmeet and bike show up until about 05 or so.
The rise of a swapmeet almost every other weekend in a 100 mile radius, caused it to fade .
I see now they are putting on a show a little north of the swap meet site on May 20th.

You really ought to get to one or both AHRMA race weekends!

If you have leathers and a DOT/Snell approved helmet, take them along; you might hear a call over the P.A. for volunteers to ride on sidecars (almost EVERY event).
