Maybe just me, but I find the flashing ads hard to read, my eye avoids them, those are the ads I don't look at or read. I think, and it's just my miserable opinion, mind you, that the forum -- and the sponsors -- would be better served without the flashing. Maybe it's because I'm old, and my eyes don't like flashing lights. 2c

No, it's not just you, it's me too.

In the big outside world, I hate ads and billboards, and will avoid (if I can) using businesses that trash up my life with them.

Here on a board like this, they can be useful, as I know that Morgan wouldn't accept some chop-shop as an advertiser, so I assume that they are a valid list of vendors from which to choose to buy parts.

However, the more garish and "active" the ad, the less likely I am to look at it, and the more likely I am to choose a sober, informative ad which is more likely to grab the attention of a Britbiker in need of a part than to grab the attention of a 5-year-old who likes sparkly things.

But that's just me and you and a few others. I'm sure that research has shown that flashing, animated ads work the best. Just something to live with ....

Thanks, Lannis, so I'm not alone.

Research, but on which products and which potential customers?

As an example of an ad that I don't have time to watch, check Baxter's.

I'm no good on analyzing how to advertise to people. It still amazes me that people are almost drooling with anticipation for watching Super Bowl commercials. We used to have little family Super Bowl parties just as a get-together excuse, but everyone spent so much time watching and talking about the damned commercials (which I ALWAYS mute and do something else) that I had to quit about 10 years ago.

Spent two nights in motels last week (caught by the weather) and turned on the TV to see if it's as stupid as it ever was (we don't have one at home). The commercials are geared to the intelligence of a chimpanzee; I can't believe that companies gain billions of dollars from the effect of showing these things to people, but apparently they do, or they wouldn't spend billions making them ....

So I wouldn't make a good ad man ....

The ads here, all I want to know is who's got spokes, ammeters, and decent fork gaiters. Flashy sparkly stuff doesn't help.

Anyone wants to know what I think the easiest to use, most informative, most B.S.-free commercial website is, go to McMaster-Carr.

I have tried for a long time to talk to the advertisers about this. But then again I have my self created animated banners for various purpose.
I will consider your thoughts but for now I cannot change anything it would not be right to sell an ad and then force them to change.
For coming years I will think about it with no promises, Maybe we could have a ywo different rates..
non flashy = cheap rate
flashy = expensive rate.. smile

BSAing you

Thanks, Morgan. Perhaps I should have made this a private comment to you.
