Hi.

Is there anyone here that has fitted a desert tank to a mk.III?

My a65 drinks petrol like it's going out of fashion, and I am going to swap out my fibre glass tank with a alu tank and I may opt for a larger desert type tank but I can't seem to find any pictures with one fitted.
So I wonder if anyone has fitted one and can show me what they look like?

My Rickman Mk III has the larger "desert tank". It is wider but not really much taller.
I hope the photo gives you a sense of what the larger tank looks like, from the side at least.

Same Mk III but with alum tank - not as large capacity as the original fiberglass tank in first photo though.

The desert tank and small tank off of my Rickman Matchless side by side.

As you can see it is quite a bit larger.

Thanks guys,

Great pics.

I have orderd the larger desert tank in aluminium so I can use it to do the classic rallies. I can always throw on the original tank if I want to look cool and visit the petrol station a lot. hehe.

I don`t think it looks too bad from the side shots that have been posted and if it means it can be used to ride longer on the gravel roads, then its just a bonus.

Nice looking large tank. Proportionally I like it better.

I forgot to say that I went for the Terry weedy desert tank and I love the beefy look.

Unfortunatly the motor didn`t want to play so currently undergoing a full rebuild but it does look like I should be finished before spring and hopefully a better riding season this year!

Thanks Charlie.

Not only do I (and you) think the tank looks good but now I can ride the back roads without the constant worry of running out of fuel .

Manx,

Your bike looks fantastic; all of the bits fit well together giving it a great look.
I'm not too familiar with Terry Weedy tanks and I'm in the market for a GS scrambles tank.
His prices are competitive and the quality looks good from photos; any comments?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick

I am going to jump in - the smaller style alum tank on my Rickman (#78 photo in this thread) is from Terry.
Been racing it for over 5 years - no issues - I installed with proper foam support to make a snug installation.

It is a good value for the money -

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for the update on the durability of your tank; no leaks after five years of racing is good testimony to the quality.
The scrambles tank will be for my 54' A10 ISDT wannabe which will see limited off-road riding.
Your bike must be a blast to ride?

Cheers,
Rick

Sorry didnt see the question on the tank.....

Unfortunatley my Desert tank leaked streight from Terry.

It was a small leak, in fact so small that I couldnt find where it was leaking from but could small and feel it under the tank.

I threw in some ethonol resistant 2 component epoxy tank sealer (Tank Cure) and that did the trick.

I think if I was in the marked for the smaller alu Metisse tank I would go with Hotworks but they have a loooooong lead time and cost more.

I`ve almost completed a full rebuild.

End feed and bearing conversion, ballanced crank, new rods, T-bolt head with big valves, fork and wheel overhaul, sprokets, chains bead blast... the whole nine yards.

Just waiting for the alu 750 cylinder (should come this week) and I am fitting Hornet high pipes.

Looks good.
What balance factor did you use on the crank?

Thanks!

I have no Idea on your question. SRM ballanced it for me for the 750.
