Only just seen this posting.
Sorry for the delay, Jerry.
Dave is correct--that is the oil thermostat that I recommend for the triples.
You may be able to get it from your local transmission dealer.
I normally order via Amazon from Lakeside Transmissions in Washington State.
When I first started investigating these stats I talked to the parts manager there--when I explained the application it turned out that he owns a Triumph twin.
So ordering from there would sort of keep it in the family.
It helps that when I was looking in the early days they were also the cheapest supplier!

Thanks, I'll check the flow rate with the manufacturer and see if it will work. Decent price, too.

Peter---yes!--you are correct--I do remember the radiator blinds for cars controlled by a cable from the drivers seat!
In fact my father had an old Morris Minor with one on!
However they work just like the radiator muff in Kevins photo.
The old cars had a small engine in a large engine compartment.
In the winter with only a small amount of power the airflow around the engine with no radiator muff meant that the coolant temperature never got up to the thermostat "cracking" temperature.
Certainly the heater (if one was fitted!) was pretty ineffectual in those circumstances.
HTH

Bodine---having to check out the temperatures and then adding or removing cardboard covers.
Perhaps time to come up to the modern times of the late 20th century and fit an oil thermostat? (tongue firmly in cheek!)

cooling a motor is a surprisingly fussy thing. surprising to me, anyway. lots happening.

i remember a rally car decades back with an over heating problem traced to stagnant air in the engine compartment. the solution was to just lift the rear of the hood about an inch to create flow-through and the problem was solved.

more was going on there, though, because that's typically a high-pressure region in front of the windshield, but as i recall that's what worked.

live every day.
die only once.

Radiator blinds are making a come back on some modern cars

When given the choice between two evils I picked the one I haven't tried before
