Hi Joe,

"line fit at best presently.." ??

I do not know what you mean by this?

Very often the gearbox casing bush holes have "grown" either due to bushes being pressed in cold or the alloy "relaxing"
over the last 60 odd years
I make my own bushes aiming foe a 1.5-2 thou interference fit, heat the casing and the bush will easily push into place
On A10's I always find that the layshafts wear as well, and need machining or grinding undersize
This means a bespoke bush.
A blind bush is difficult to size accurately once fitted, one way is to make the bush with a through bore and than fit an end cap once the bush is reamed to size, this needs careful fitting and sealing

hi John,
what i mean is no interference.....not sure if new bush was made correctly, probably aftermarket. i have one old bush that may be out of this gearbox( had boxes of parts sitting around for years) and o.d. is .877 which will work but the i.d. is to large....

Working from memory here, but I just made them for my A10 box and .877 sounds correct. As John states, heat the aluminum housing and chill the bushing and install should be fairly easy.

John-I did just this on the one I made. After installing I turned an aluminum plug for a .004 fit, heated the case/bushing and chilled the plug. I was also considering a spot of two part epoxy just for extra measure before the sprocket and covers go back on.

Hi...
Yes it seems like the three old bushing (o.d.) i had all were .877 or .8775. The new bush (repop?) was .8758 and it pushes almost all the way into the g/box by hand! I was just hoping someone had a extra new old stock to verify or sell (if correct O.D.)..other wise i will need a custom bushing which sucks since i sold my lathes.....
i did check with a few BSA spares dealers and they said the bushes they had were .8755 so still hoping someone has a .877,my search continues...
