I have started work on my old AJS. ITS BEEN SITTING FOR 15 years. I redid the mag and she is running again. I am only getting a small charge out of the dynamo, .5 volt.
Do I need to energize the field . Any suggestions welcomed. I don't want to strip unnecessarily.

Yes, try briefly connecting battery live to dynamo F, while the engine is running at more than idling speed.
