Greetings all,
1967 BSA Thunderbolt.
A faulty rotor has destroyed the ignition module on my Sparx electronic ignition. While troubleshooting we put a used Boyer module on the bike and it seems to be running fine.

I can't find a replacement Sparx module...without buying the whole kit (please feel free to direct me).

Are these ignition modules interchangeable? Providing I get one suited to an A65, does it matter if it is Sparx, Boyer, Tri-spark etc.?

Thanks for your advice /experience.

I would imagine that the ignition module should be same brand to match the trigger. Usually the module would be the most expensive part of the igniton, so it might be better to buy a new igniton system. The price of Pazon electronic ignitons isn't too bad and they have a 7 year warranty($159 aud shipped). I would try calling Sparx and ask if the module is available.

Hi,

Firstly, welcome to the Forum.

Depends. It's unwise to assume that one maker's 'box' can be connected to another maker's 'trigger unit' and they'll automatically work together. However, particularly in the case of the Boyer-Bransden, Sparx and Pazon units:-

. If your Sparx e.i. was one of the original batch, it was a licensed copy of the Boyer-Bransden Mk.3. How much the current Sparx e.i. owes to that, I couldn't say, and even parts from the two Sparx systems might not be interchangeable - try Andy Gregory for spares/ more information?

. The couple that run Pazon used to work for Bransden, he might have given them permission to use the same trigger unit design?

Hth.

Regards,
