I'm trying to post an image in the gallery but when I hit the Image post tab it gives an error message about having exceeded my limit - as I have not done anything that appears counter-intuitive !! Can anyone help?
Steve

Steve, when you hit the Image manager link in Gallery forum then you can read how large in KByte or MB file you can upload.
Notice the limit, your photo must be lower than the limit

Ah I see, basic members account cannot upload images to BritBike server, only upgraded members can.
Basic members can only link to photo that are hosted elsewhere.
Upgraded members can upload 6 photos in a gallery thread.
I will look into this next week as I am going on a trip right now.

Ok, so now Photobucket want a subscription of $399 PA as from 26/6/17 to upload links on other webpages. Who has used an alternative site? What a load of [***] this is. I am quite happy to pay a small fee to become a member of this forum, but I feel I am being blackmailed into it, by having to join to upload photos.

Dave.

Steve, who is blackmailing you? It's not me/britbike. I have nothing to do with photobu...
This forum has been online 21 years and would have been long gone If I had not found sponsor help in the past.
See this page scroll all the way to the bottom.
http://www.britbike.com/sponsor/

The first years was not cheap I payed the same amount that you would buy a decent running BSA A65. Every year.. Familiy was not happy to see holiday money spent on a website.
Then members and companies started to contribute and with out that help it wouild have eventually been closed.

Luckily that did not happen. Still there was no way to upload photos but that changed along the way.
However there was still an issue that the database and storage was limited.

Still I wanted to offer image upload service and a new member account was created the Premium member who can upload images and documents.
You see over the years spammers, scammer and other non wanted creatures will take advantages andpost whatever they like and it will be annoying and we just don't want to deal with that.

The premium members group that pays about a dollar per month is perfect you see a scammer will not likely apply for membership and the pay the 12.95 dollars because it will
reveal their identity.

BTW nothing is free.. you may think that this website is free but as I mentioned it is the sponsors that pay for it. As a "free" member you don't get all the benefitsbut quit a few.
Cheers
Morgan your admin.

there is no way i can express how much i have i have benefited from this website.

like many people, i went through 20-plus years when there were no available suppliers, no available information, no available contacts, and no way to do anything with an old british machine except on your own, badly.

i have benefited immensely from this place and have paid for a life membership.

thanks, morgan.

cheap at the price.

I paid and sent my membership in. But I have no idea how to make a pic smaller to upload. I use a iPhone or iPad.
It’s terrible what photo bucket has done to all these sites. If it was a small fee I’d be fine but 400 a year is crazy.
There was such a wealth of info with pics. Wish we could get it back.
I have no idea what to use to post pics now.

I am in a similar position, paid up, try to attach images and am limited to 300 Kb, most of my pics are below 600 and worked OK with P Bucket.
I set my new camera to min pic size but its not low enough . I give up , wont be renewing its made no difference. resizing pics is a headache, takes me an age.

Hi folks,

I hear you, and had hoped to have a better solution onboard but its not ready just yet but soon.
When it happen one could upload larger images and the forum compresses the photos.
We are not there just yet.

On a pc you can mark a bunch of photos and rightclick, then chose to send them as email while there you can set size to 800x600 and save them.
Its some work but it works I did it for years.
on a mac select the photos open in preview select tools and adjust size to 800x600

once you done it a few times its easier.

I have to keep the photos down in size as for now they all end up in one folder which will cause problems in the future if to large.

I hope you understand I don't try to be evil. Its not perfect using a third party either as they might change rules or close down.

Good luck and thanks for your support.
Cheers
Morgan

Hey, on your iPad (or phone & probably your Mac or PC desktop) You can search for an app to resize images to fit the max size limits. Not sure exactly what the MB limits are for posting via FileManager, but posting a pic using a host site allows a max file size of 600 X 800. I was using something (imagur?) which seems to have left me now, to resize images to fit max file size in file manager, AND also for creating custom avatars (100 X 100 max) but Im pretty sure you can resize pics in free version of photoshop or Lightroom. Just looking now to see whats available in the Apple App Store.

Adobe Photoshop Express
Image Size
InstaSize Photo & Pic Editor

Among others.

There are loads of apps available for this, it seems. Some if not most are free.

Also, Dont forget that you can use a free host site, or pay for one, too.
Adam (as stated above) is using PostImage.org, as are some of the other folks here, since photo b*cket [email protected] the bed on us.
I use Zenfolio myself, I think the basic plan costs about.... oh hell I don't know! I have no idea really...

OK, a quick look at their PLANS PAGE reveals all. Basic plan, paid annually in one lump sum, comes out to 5 bucks (USD) per month.

Now with a paid subscription, you're gonna get better service, zero bulls*t, NO adverts, a URL address for your photos page/home, blog space, etc. WITH NO ADVERTS.
One of the ADVrider guys owns (or did own) SMUGMUG. another rock solid paid host site.

Let's face it. For over 10 years, photo b*cket was THE bidnezz. Then they got jumpy, trying al manner of ways to entice users to "join" the social media "craze". BUT all we want is a solid host site that we can mainly use to share photos. No "hanging out" or telling "stories" with out fucking photos. Now of course, they have totally lost all semblance of anything anyone wants to deal with. Not to mention they've been a major PIA over the past couple years. I was on their site a few days ago just to see if I could still get my albums out of there (NOPE) and it was such a hassle thatI didnt hang around long.

SO getcherseff either another free photo host site, and put up with whatever comes of being the product (ain't nothin free, doods) or get up offa that wallet and shuck out a couple bucks a year for QUALITY.

Ciao 4 now.
Tom

As I have mentioned before premium members can attach photos with their posts the photos can now be up to 8MB large.
when they are being uploaded they will be reduced to max 800px either at height or widht. The up to 8MB will also be reduced accordingly.
.JPG files are prefered. so now you don't need to reduce file size first.

Morgan, please take a look at KC's thread in Rod & Tappet. We cannot post images using Attachment Manager out of our iPads.

I'm beginning to think it might be a proprietary iTunes issue, OR that somehow the BritBike server isn't compatible with iPad's photo files.
See my message to you in Fa cebo ok Messenger, also please.

The more I think about it the more I think it might be an Apple/iTunes thing so I'm going down that road right now.

Thanks.

Steve, Thank you for supporting BritBike by upgrading to Premium membership.

One of the new things is that you now can upload attachments with your posts such as PDF, GIF, JPG.
The attached images will be shown as thumbnails below your text and when clicked it will popup showing in size 800px
The process is that you upload a large image and in the process the image will be compressed and resized.
This means the file and page will be easy and fast to open.

see info from the forum help section.

Quote
Can I attach a file to my post?
When creating a new thread or response, you'll see a "Attachment Manager" link on the "Full Reply" or "New Post" page. When selecting this option you'll receive a popup which will allow you to attach files to your post.

Steps:
1. Click "Attachment Manager" to bring up the "Attachment" window.
2. Click "Browse" to bring up the file browser window; this will allow you to browse your computer for any files or images you wish to upload; please note that you're bound by whatever the "allowed file type" setting is for the forum.
3. Click "Open" on the file you wish to upload.
4. Enter a descriptive caption for that file (optional).
5. Click "Upload" to add another file, or "Done Adding Files" to close the window and complete your posting.

Please note that you must enter some text in both the "subject" and "post" fields when responding otherwise you will receive an error; you cannot just respond with an attachment wink.
