No. It was built in May of model year 1970-1971 (ie 71 model) Yes it is a Thunderbolt.

Thanks a lot for the info. I'm pretty new to BSA and must have read it wrong online. So I should now confidently say it is a 1971 thunderbolt.

Yes I bought a bunch of stuff off someone that wasn't interested in selling things individually. I bought it with the intent to sell everything but the Hornet project.

That was my intent too when I saw it. Then reality kicked in... I have to many projects as is. Glad to see that stuff went to a good home. Good luck on the project! Feel free to visit my site if you need anything www.classicbritishspares.com

It will be a slow project. But in no rush. I found good homes for most of the other big parts. Still have two more engines to let loose then a bunch of small stuff.

A bit off topic, but does anyone know why the flange on that cylinder barrel looks so thin? It should be about 1/2" thick - is that perhaps an aftermarket barrel or something?

Hi Mark,

It isn't a cylinder barrel, it's a cover plate over the crankcase mouth - better and more pictures.

Hth.

Oh...duh! Ok, not a bad idea I suppose, for long term storage?
