Thanks, we should be able to meet up at Cambewarra Mountain. Is there a name and number for the cabin at Kalaru in case we get lost or ?

Also, do we have to bring bedding or something?

Just looked at the map and it looks like you are going down the A1 towards Melbourne. We will be riding up from Melbourne so we will be back tracking from Jambaroo south. Does your ride go around Melbourne to get to the Grampians? I was hoping to see some of the interior of AU. We may set out from Jambaroo or Cambewarra Mountain to the west if we can come up with a route. We'll have to stay in touch.

Your ride up the A1 to Nowra should be nice. It's quite a scenic trip. Fuels stops are a bit sparse between Orbost and Eden, so make sure you fill up when you can.

Our basic run is
Tue - down the coast to Tathra / Kalaru,
Wed - across to Cooma, then Jindabyne and the Alpine Way to Khancoban. Plan B (in the unlikely event the Alpine Way is closed by snow) is the northern route via Adaminaby.
Then Khancoban to Beechworth
Thu - Beechworth -> Nagambie -> Heathcote -> Ballarat -> Halls Gap

Beechworth is one of the old gold towns, and close to Glenrowan where Ned Kelly was captured. Ballarat was a gold town as well, and has the Eureka Stockade. Beechworth -> Ballarat is through the old gold mining areas.

Hi Shane

Yes down New England and then the Newell and out through Narrandera. Boring as bat poop but I haven't done from Tamworth on down that route in about 20 or 30 years. Lived in a couple of places along the way and use to do a lot of that route fairly frequently once so it will be a bit of a sentimental pass through old stomping grounds.

BSAOC Vic have just had a cancellation I can take over, so Thunderbirds are GO!

Beers on me.

We should be there late afternoon on Tuesday 6th.
I have 2 cabins booked at the caravan park at Kalaru.

The camp kitchen seemed pretty reasonable, so we're planning to get some snags, steaks, salad and a carton of beer and settle in for the evening.

Are you taking that rocketship of yours down to the rally?

No. But we might go up to Narooma and ride down a bit with you. It's one of the nicest pieces of road around here. This is Ben's bike:

Have a few things to do but we hope it will be ready by then. I fitted DC CDIs to it not sure how they will go. We are waiting on fuel taps, the left carb is in the road of the original.

That would be good, Mark.
I hope to stop at Batemans Bay for fish and chips along the waterfront, so probably getting away from there around 2.
It was a nice run down through Batehaven to Moruya, even thought a lot of it is in town. According to Google Maps it's just over an hour to Narooma, so that would be a nice spot for a quick break as well.
Let's work out the details next week.

UPDATE 23rd October 2018

Organisers advise that the event has reached capacity and is SOLD OUT. If anyone was anticipating arriving on the day and entering as a walkup, regrettably this will not be possible.

Anyone with an interest in BSA Motorcycles is encouraged to keep an eye out in the Halls Gap area during the week of the rally. All of the rides are being conducted on public roads with plenty of opportunity to view many of Small Heaths finest.

We will meet up with you at Cambewarra before 11AM and ride to Halls Gap with you. I hope it's not too late to share a cabin or reserve something else. I checked your ride and it looks like it'll be right for us. Also, we can get up a bit leisurely at Jambaroo on Tue. morning and still get to the first stop early. Thanks again for the planned ride. We'll be in touch when we get to Melbourne.

Trying to figure out transportation from Melbourne to Halls Gap. Have been looking at Train or Bus (coach) but I find the schedules rather confusing. We will be arriving in Melbourne on Thursday the 8th and plan to leave for Halls Gap Friday morning. It looks like a train to Stawell and then bus or coach to Halls Gap? Will there be a shuttle available? Any help on this would be appreciated.

With a bit of luck, one of the Victorians will come along with better info, but this link to the Public Transport Victoria might help.

That's why I hope one of the Victorians will come along to help smile

According to the trip planner, there only seem to be 2 options:
- morning train to Ballarat, coach to Stawell and another coach to Halls Gap
- early afternoon train to Ararat and coach to Halls Gap.

Taking the train to Ararat should be more comfortable, but it gets you there a couple of hours later.
I'll catch up with you when you get there.

Thanks Robbo. We'll be picking up a car Friday morning and heading directly to Halls Gap. Thinking of taking the M79 NW out of the airport rather than dropping down to the M8. Would that be more scenic? Goggle says its only about 25 to 30 mins longer.

Yep, car rental in Melbourne at the airport is $7.00 to $10.00 per day for an economy car. At that price rental for a week is a deal. That's what I did for this event. And then ride a kindly provided BSA at the Meet.

Currently along the Great Ocean Road, lovely roads and wishing I was doing it on the bike! lots of twisties, covered most of it today - excellent roads and view (like visiting different parts of the world in on one road), however I will point out to anyone riding it that if your on there and you find a fuel stop, probably best if you fill up with fuel when you can, theres a big section between Lorne and port campbell where the only fuel station we noticed (and had to use it was in a foggy area) called Lavers Hill, they have fuel but about 20cents dearer than most places at $1.85

Anyway, see you all at the rally, its absolutely grand over here and I hope you all have a great time!

Many thanks for the invite Mark, were on the GOR at the moment and head up to Halls Gap tomorrow, we were in the Yarra valley but with different plans between my friend and I it made things quite tight, So whilst Im here my lady back home has asked me to do a reckie as she wants to come with me another time.. So never say never as to meeting up, when I do make it back in Aus again I'm sure to add it to the itinerary.

I did see a lovely 69 Lightning on Tuesday whilst we were at the 12 apostles site, no doubt going to the rally but didn't know if it was anyone on here, had a really nice set of craven equipment on it.
