When H*nda used the VT Ascot at Ascot they converted it to chain drive. I think it was mainly for changing ratios quickly.

Well, I took delivery of the Honda on Thursday and have been riding it around.

Honda at home now.
[Linked Image]
I had intended to do a ride report giving some comparisons between it and, say, a T140, but I don't think that's possible. It's like comparing apples to houses. I can't find anything in common between them except that they have two wheels.

So, I'll give that a pass. No point in it. I'll come to love the Honda, like I did the KZ because my affections toward motorcycle comes from the loyalty and service they provide and little else.

No brand loyalty from me. I have four really different motorcycles now, for four completely different moods, so I'm happier than a dog with a bone.

I recommend owning and riding a variety of motorcycles. Staying with just one thing seems a little stuck in the mud to me.

Enjoy the spice of life, I say.

Cheers,
Bill

I wonder if Craig Vetter had anything to do with the design of the Nighthawk, as he did with the Hurricane. No mention of it here:

If King Kenny can flat track a Vmax you should be able to do it on that one.

Hey no one mentioned the Honda "GB" (sorry no picture). At least they're not trying to be sneaky about it, ey?

IIRC, Yamaha used to advertise the XS650II as being "in the tradition of the great British twins". I had one for 11 yrs and kept it in perfect shape. When I sold it, the new owner laid it down on gravel, then grenaded the engine within the first month.

Oh, no, a new classification; the DNO or dreaded new owner....

No Japanese, Kawasaki or new Triumph Corporation bike looks like a "classic" British bike. The clones are too shiny in the wrong places , too densely packed and too bulky. The new Triumph Bonneville looks obese compared to a T120. Not that the new stuff are bad bikes because some are nice machines. But to me they are just like paper cut outs of the real thing..

Let me shovel some coal on the fire: grin
Doesn't the engine of the Honda that looks like a Velocette look like a Royal Enfield engine? smile

Several years ago I was looking to buy one but the prices they were going for seemed way to high for me for a used bike

When given the choice between two evils I picked the one I haven't tried before

I bought a new XS650. Used to crank the starter till the battery went dead. Then kick it for another 30 minutes till it finally started.
Thank God somebody stole it. They must have pushed it away.
