Boomer....I want to thank you for posting photos of the event for those of us that didn't attend.

We've been sitting on the edge of our seats for a couple of weeks and it's nice to get a peek at what was going on.

LOVE the photo of the group...is that Don in the front?? and I notice that sly devil Morgan has the women rounded up. smile

Thank you again for taking the time to share.... :bigt

Gordon, from left to right: Anki, Marie, Morgan, Boomer (Bill B...), Bryan, Jim, Alex, Amy, Dieter.
I hope I spelled everyone's name right, apologies if not.

Gigi, Mrs. Boomer, took the picture.

Thank you Bill (aka Boomer) You were the only one I wasn't sure about.... smile

Isn't it GREAT to be able to put faces to screen names and meet these people face to face.

Thank you again for going to the trouble to share your photos.

BTW....I spelled Morgan's wife's name wrong one time and ended up calling her an old duck! blush Anki?

Cheers Bill. No intended oil spills photographed- they are BSA's after all. laughing

I also agree, but you both have a huge personality and heart.

It starts off with the view from my motel, the clear open span of this country is phenonimal. The view lead me to expect Clint Eastwood to ride over and chewing tobacco [Linked Image]

One of the great things was to hook up with the BB people. After talking to them online for several years and then meeting them in person. Allan and I talked to each other several times in the campground before we figured out who we were talking to. Lannis told him to look for the big guy, hence my "tongue in cheek" comment. Dieter was the first to introduce himself to Gigi (Marilyn) and I.

Dieter and me after arriving at the opening ceremony. Tony and Sue, Sarah and Geoff's riding partners, are behind Dieter.

NOW WE'RE TALKING FELLOWS.........BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

Perfect way to share the trip with the rest of us.....love all those smiles, and yes Bill meeting these people.....well what can I say?

Allan, you did good little buddy. smile

Bill, one of the things I find interesting about this group...is how so much alike everybody is. Maybe it's just me and the folks I've been lucky enough to be around....but it really is a special group of people.

Thanks again you two....BEAUTIFUL!!!!

A different perspective, I focused on the rear.
Didn't get them all but a stroll around the camp produced these...

Thanks for posting Bill, Allan, Don and anyone else. Great to see what it was all about when you can't be there.
Bill have you got anymore pics of the Goldtars? The old ones in particular.

At the Sonoma ride when they separated out the Gold Stars there were about 22 to 25 out of about 200 bikes there. Only one Gold Star was pre swing arm and that was Wade's BB plunger. Other than the few M20/21's and a pre war racer at the vintage races, I don't recall seeing any older pre swing arm BSA's, (there was Wades rigid racer but I wouldn't count that). I would say close to 75% of the bikes there were unit singles and twins.

Interesting Bill.
I suppose that is just a reflection of the British bike industry of that time. The U.S. was by far Britain's biggest market. Lots of bikes got sold there in this time.
Pre '50s was probably dominated by Harley and Indian until the Second World War got in the way. Then of course most export would have ceased while concentrating on the war effort.
Would have been nice to see more of the older stuff I guess.
Maybe 2018 downunder will pull a few out of the bushes.

Well thank you Bill, I thought it came out pretty good.
I know it's not a "yarn" but if every picture tells a story and a picture is worth a thousand words...
There's a small novel there!

I didn't know that was your headlight, but it was worthy of a shot.
You must have had some strong rotational forces at play there.
Pleasure meeting you and the entire crew in the back corner!

For those of you who wonder, I'll repost the link.

It's an aftermarket halogen and I shimmed it later. Maybe stay upright now...Dieter rode it all week. Never missed a beat! Also my weird little Victor with the temp tag. Was kinda hoping you got the plate of the Tbolt. A65T Ohio.

Wade, we are anxiously awaiting your professional presentation.

I have more of the Golden Gate, PCH and Big Sur.
Some the wife and I took out on the Coast in Sonoma County, and the line up behind the "Servants Quarters".

I've had multiple mechanical failures to deal with since the Rally, none of them Motorcycle related.
Didn't someone mention trying to catch up? 12 inches of grass to mow?

Your pics have been moved or deleted according to my screen...need to mow bad. Should say the weeds need mowed, I don't have a need to mow. Gravely starter won't. Busy with conference. Grass getting taller. I can hear it growing from here.

Gravely? Yeah I've got a Gravely, 1982 5665 Professional with a 30" brick throwing deck.
PTO clutch discs went out just before Shane and Cheryl arrived from Australia.
Then the weedwacker needed rebuilding and the fuel pump on the Cushman Truckster...

I'll catch up this weekend, maybe.

Looks nice Boomer... real nice! That's in a dry year huh?
Do you need any tenants?

Brown down here, never got a chance this year to see much green.
The hills were lit up like Ireland for just a few weeks, used to be half the year.

Bill(the other Bill), do you have a snowblower attachment for your Gravely.
It's my understanding they put out quite the impressive plume.

Pommard clone of Pinot Noir. 12 year old vines. Just starting to produce some good flavors that come with older vines.

That little patch is just 104 vines. At the time it was the only clear ground I had. I've since taken out 3 acres of very old filberts and replanted 2 acres in a new disease resistant variety of filbert and almost an acre of 2 and 3 year old vines. About half or 250 vines of that are Cabernet Franc and another 250 of Pinot Noir and a couple of short rows of Chardonnay. I'm in the middle of Chehalem Valley, the middle of Oregon Pinot country, but I don't have the best grape growing land as far as soil and aspect but you know what, I own it and I'll do what ever pleases me. And I please to make wine.

We've got more than a few home Vintners down around here. I have a welder who harvests Cab.
I try to only use his services during the Spring. Stinkin' wino..

Filberts? What other sorts of nut groves do you guys got up there?

Digging the whole set up there Bill, is that a daylight basement?

There's a few walnut groves but filberts (hazelnuts) are the big thing.

It's a full basement. Has a big ramp for bringing wood in for the wood burning forced air furnace. Stays 58 to 60F all year round. Perfect for wine storage.

Didn't mean to hijack my own thread so here's some more rally pics.

We like the small out of the way wineries. This is Elizabeth Spencer in Rutherford. They only make about 8 to 10 barrels a year. Their tasting room used to be the Rutherford post office, built in the 1870's.

Hi all,

Better late than never. First of all, I had a great time slumming with the BSA owners and would like to thank them all for their tolerance toward this interloping Triumph owner. Fortunately for me, Wade's trailer was already overflowing with bikes and bits, or I may have tried to work out a deal with someone to bring home a BSA of my own. Although everyone seemed pretty possessive of what they had so that might not have bee possible, anyway.

In any case, I have a zillion photos from the three weeks I spent with Wade ping-ponging across this grand country of ours, but not wanting to start a whole new thread, I hope it's okay to piggyback a couple of pics to this one.

[Linked Image]

Here we have a pre-rally confab where Wade, about an hour away from his maiden voyage wipe-out on his barely street-legal '57 Goldstar, discusses this very possibility with Deiter and Tom. I'm fairly certain this is the point where Dieter is telling Wade, "I wouldn't ride your bikes around the corner, let alone take them to a rally." Despite his misgivings, however, Deiter did agree to ride the '51 for the shakedown ride -- riding right behind Wade, affording him a front row seat to the carnage that was to come.

[Linked Image]

At the rally, Allan tries his hand -- or foot, rather -- at starting ol' number 27. Allan was the first one who managed to start it post-accident, using a technique with the compression release that no one else was able to master. Hence, it remained dormant for another day or two.

A shot of the spectacular Northern California coast while a few ne'er-do-wells (who appear to be working out their album cover shoot) block the scenery. (Wade, Bill, Rich, Don.):

So that conversation actually happened?
I could see Deiter saying that, laying it all out there in simple, certain fashion. Priceless.

Thanks for posting, I know there will be more from you and others.

I would have gladly supplied the starter rollers I had in camp. A couple of rotations and #27 would have come to life.

Thanks Gary.... I did think about that.... But then we would not have put the effort into sorting it out. Three days in it became a one kick starter thanks to Semper Gumby and good advice from Goldstar Ron in California....

Not only did it become a one kick starter, but it idles pretty nicely now, too, as I recall.

Lads... late chiming in to show some appreciation for those of you less slack than myself at posting some pics & a yarn or two.

I fully plan to share what I have in my camera depicting the exploits of the Greenspring express and the No Name Man Nomads. I promise pics and tales this weekend. Work is - well work, and it is getting in the way of important things.

Boomer... love your spread & yes... I did spot those vines. Lovely estate you have there.

Jamie... great to meet you and happy to hear you are now a BSA convert. Front row carnage witnessing aside grin

Cheers for now lads.... back to.... work.

Hey Alan,
I don't think it was so much the accident, but more the subsequent attempt at bodging together a working throttle and throttle cable which disturbed the GP carb settings.

Correct Jamie. But the Float level was wrong to start with which is why it was so hard to start even before the accident. 20 to 40 kicks before the accident... No Go after. Cant wait to try it again this weekend. Will it still be a one kicker???
