Im changing my bike over to 12v. Im having trouble finding a 12v battery to fit in the 6v battery tray. Anybody do this on their bikes?Any ideas of a battery that would fit?

Take your old battery to batteries plus or cycle gear or wherever you can actually look at the battery. Then pick the battery that is next smallest in size. You may have to pad it out a little bit. Polyethylene packing foam seems to work well for me.

Scorpion AGM batteries. The only way to go. Inexpensive, no acid spills, free shipping.

i also have a 64 L/R--converted to 12V----i used an agm , 12n5-equiv.--nice and small fits right in. has enough capacity with lights on,,i assume you installed an RM21 stator,, you will also have to add a zener diode,,,as the 64 6volt model was not fitted with a zener. change the rectifier to a solid state unit..

If you install a combination rectifier/regulator unit such as Tympanium, Podtronics, etc., you won't need a zener diode.

Scorpion YTX7E. It fits in the original battery tray. Same width, but a little less in depth. AGM's can be mounted in any position, on their back, even upside down. But they need the new style electronic type charger, like a "battery Tender" or similar, not a standard or trickle charger, nor one from Harbor Freight.

Thanks Gary but my old 6v battery is only 2 1/4 inch deep and is snug. 3 inches wouldn't fit.

I think finding this battery at 2 1/4 deep with enough power is going to be tough. I want to use the stock battery box and latch to keep a stock appearance.

Western power sports WPS p/n 12N5.5-3b is nearly a perfect fit in my 64 LR. YUSA also makes one and I think it has the same part number. Size H 5 1/8 W 5 1/4 D 2 3/8 12V 5.5 Ah

The battery box is small with that wire retainer. I use a 1/8" rubber pad on the back to fit the brace and the same in front behind the wire bracket and one more on the floor.

I'm using two of these in series

They claim to have a very long life. Think you can add the ah rating together so 5 ah. A little low, guessing standard is 7 ah but they should be ok if you have a good charging system with regular use.
