Ok folks, this is a start to restoring Lannis's thread. It's a little bit raw, I'll dress it up if it becomes necessary.

We drove thru the Petaluma KOA camp ground on our way back to Oregon from the Clubman's Show on Sunday. It is ground zero for the '14 rally.

Big facility located close to freeway interchange (local services available), but far enough away that freeway noise should not be an issue. One entrance/exit. The site is hilly, so push starting a bike will be easy. Lots of trees for shade, but that won't matter in early May, not that hot then anyway. The individual sites are real close together, something we are not use to in Oregon. Better hope for quiet neighbors (fat chance during the rally!).

At the camp ground? That is taken care of when you book the rally! If you are staying in a hotel off site then you will be missing out on the best part of the rally. Camping out with this lot including staying up late around the campfires (if allowed ) or in the beer tent (or both) is really where all the memorable moments happen.

Yes, ground zero is the place to be.

I made KOA reservations a couple of months ago, before they were up and running for May 2014. They promptly lost them, and anothers', so had to do it again after they had their computer system setup for that far out.

Thought about bringing the 16'x20' wall tent I use for elk hunting, then considered it overwhelming to setup and use, so went the 'wussy' route and reserved a deluxe cabin lodge to appease the boss in this household. So, when it rains the first week of May, I'll be high and dry.

If you book in yourself instead of the normal channels (BSAOC) will you be camping with us or with the general public? I would think that the BSA group will have special reserved camping area set apart from the public area. the five rallies that I have been too have been this way. At least the ones that were at actual campgrounds.

I can't say for sure, but I believe the entire campground may be set aside for the rally. Again, just speculating, looking at the campground advance reservations throughout the year (I did some research), I think the first week of May is a slow time at the KOA, and so maybe that had some consideration for when the club picked that week for the rally instead of during the summer months. Again, my opinion only. As yet, that I know of, the Nor Cal club is not setup for making reservations through them. When making reservations with the Petaluma KOA, say it is for the rally. I have, as others also.

I called the Petaluma KOA several weeks ago and after a couple of calls I was able to reserve a trailer site. I was asked if I was coming for the BSA rally and the lady made sure I reserved the right days/nights.

Don't know about campsites. I wanted to make sure I had a spot for water and electrical hookups for my vintage trailer.

I know of lodges, pull-thru RV spaces, and camp-sites that have been reserved.

I think I'm gonna just camp under the stars. I'm guessing a tent will be superfluous.

Alex...can I bribe you to recon the KOA for hammock hangin' trees?

You know the requirements, but if tents are the better option...I'll bring a tent. Otherwise - you know my preference is to be swingin' in the breeze.

Petaluma KOA Campground. Lot of trees. The tent camping area is at the top of the image to the left of the swim pool facility. The KOA facility is mostly pull-thru RV spaces since it is located not far from US Highway 101 (a freeway). The campground is on sloping terrain.

I plan on tenting. Hoping for a flat spot but a hammock sounds good too.

Sweet...thanks Gary...looks like a hammock dwellers paradise :-)

Wade...I had hoped to hammock at IOM, but...well...you were there...pasture land tends to be treeless land.

Still was more appropriate for getting into the true IOM spirit & weather by sleeping in the mud. smirk

Hello Folks,

Part time lurker, but now a member to post this as my first post, so please forgive me if I have made a mistake or posted incorrectly. The BSAOCNC has added some 2014 International Rally information to their website. Official rally info will be posted here.

You got me thinking back to BSA USA 2006 & I then spent time looking back at the first posts here on the BSAOC International Rally Bulletin Board.
Go back to page 6, sit back, relax and read on.
But maybe already you know all this and you were at rimfield?

Stirred up some memories for me, the start of my continuing association with US and some good folks living there

This one might work a bit better Wade.

page 5

I think Bryan's browser settings give him six pages while we only have five, therefore we get an error message when we click on his link.
