As far as I know, the sprockets are the same for all unit A65s, but I don't know of anyone making a 520 sprocket.

A new friend of mine has built an INCREDIBLE unit 650 Triumph Rickman. He asked me if I had any 520 chain parts, which I thought odd, and assumed he was thinking of 530. Nope, he has 520 chain and sprocket on the bike. So, I am thinking since Rickman frames take all kinds of motors, maybe they have a line on a 520 sprocket for an A65.
BTW, why are you doing that again......... ??

thanks for the response. I intend on running dirt track wheels and tires on this bike. a proper street tracker w/ 19in wheels at both ends; quick change hubs etc..and from past experience with Triumphs (T120s) Trackmaster & Redline frames, clearance issues with 530 chains was a problem. so we made our own 520 counter shaft sprockets...I was hoping that some one was building 520 counter shaft sprockets for vintage triumph/BSA road race/dirt track bikes. Its a lot of work to make these sprockets; (labor intensive ) to get them right. I didn't think about calling dirt track/ road race frame builders to ask. I will do that today.
thank you for the response.

Unit single are 520 and fit the A65 but may not go big enough as largest is 19 teeth.

(kommando) good information; not what I wanted to hear, but good info to be stored away. Information/technical facts like this, is/are what keeps me/us moving in the right direction. Thank you vary much.

There is hope. I've read here that a few people have converted to 520 in order to use O-ring chain. Somebody knows where to get sprockets.
I know how little clearance there is, even on a stock A65. I've seem some alloy dust on the master link of my Tsubaki QR. Not even O-ring, and it barely clears.

Sent Rickman an email, and called several frame builders; it s coming down to this. I am going to end up building the 520 sprockets....again.. I cant believe that someone isn't making a 520 sprocket for these motors. Maybe I can offset some of my cost building this bike by building a basket full of 520 sprockets.
thanks again for the info..

The market probably is not big enough. Unless large quantities are made it is cheaper to modify stock engine sprockets because the broaching and heat treat will cost.
Turning the rear sprockets down is easy or you can get some Sprocket Specialties blanks and machine the centre/drill the bolt holes. The easiest way to narrow the engine sprocket is to put a body grinder in the lathe tool post.
I would safety wire the knock-offs. They can come loose.
DP- you should use a riveting master for more clearance.

A what? Do you mean a master link which is riveted as opposed to clipped? I guess that works if I can find one and manage to punch the rivets while on the bike. What do I do to clean the chain?
I'd just as soon relieve the cover where it rubs the chain, 0.01 should be sufficient. Probably already done by the chain. Not as if it's a stressed part. I'm not even sure why they put that flange on the case in the first place.

The tool used to separate the riveted master also stakes the pin and can be done in situ. I clean my chain with WD-40 then spray on Chain Wax. No need to remove the chain until it is worn out.
The case flange over the chain? That is to keep the oil that is flung off from getting on the rest of the motor. The bikes originally came with a drip oiler.

I use 520Xring chain, I just grind the inner side down till it fits. That way it offsets it out a little, I use a rivet link for better clearence. If it skims the back of the chaincase sometimes it doesn't do much. (It doesn't run on it)

Yeah, I plugged that up.
Of course, the crankcase breather still does the job of flinging oil on the engine. laughing
I have seen no more alloy dust on the master link, so I guess it's made its own clearance.
