Chris is back in NZ now and I had a talk with him. They had a very bad practice week. The Manx Norton collapsed a new piston after two laps and they borrowed a standard engine for the race. He managed one 100 mph lap on it.

He practiced a long and short stroke 350 Aermaachi and used the short stroke for the Junior race. It took him two laps to sort out the right gears for the corners but got one lap at 99 mph which he was happy with.

Next meeting is the NZCMRR meeting at Taupo in Sept. Hopefully he will practice the ex Les Diener Eldee 2 DOHC MOV 250 Velo which is being prepared for racing after several years in retirement.

Bill Swallow was there acting as team manager.

Chris and his partner have moved down to NZ for a year or two and they are staying in my house while Im overseas saving for retirement :-)) (and maybe a new bike!!)

Back in February Bill came down for the NZ summer as well and was offered several bikes to ride at Puke and other meetings. One of them was the Manx which he said was a perfect Manx GP bike so they hatched a plan with the owner take it to the Manz. However he has been having piston issues and the bike had problems in practice and they had to borrow an engine for the race.

Im a bit disappointed that Im missing all this sitting in Kazakhstan but at least my house has a useful person looking after it. A lot better maintained than when I was home. Chris is a bit of a live wire. A very good mountain runner and always on the going fixing and doing things.

Hi Ron
Good to see your up-n-running.
Reguarding "newcomers" Just check out performance of James Cowton in newcomers and junior MGP!
James is 19/20 y/old and rides my Norbsa locally in twisty sprints. hill climb and occasional clasic road races, with some success.
His newcomer performance takes some beleaving !!
Anybody looking for a rider for next year would do well to consider James C. for the job what?
Contact me and I MAY be able to arrange it.
VBSTRGS to all HarryK beerchug

Hi Harry..!! Yes I am always amazed at how FAST some of the Newcomers are..!! Looks like I am all lined up for next year... I hope to get over for the Pre-TT Classice (Southern) and leave the racer there for the Manx as well...

Oh it will ALWAYS be the Manx Grand Prix, regardless of what the silly DED try to call it..!! smile

Cheers..!!

Ron
