For the anyone who might be interested....

The newly acomplished A65 engine on 892 ccm is running good, have run for 200 km now, and still no major breakdown. smile

With 22-47 teeth sprockets and beltdrive with 10 % increase in primary, the bike is more long legged, and thats nessecary. Got the tacho and speed today, have so far tried the bike to 6000 r/min and 150 km/hour.

some specs: Norton COmmando Crank, 89 mm stroke, Devimeade barrels, bore 80 mm. SRM increased inletvalves, ported head, stronger valvesprings, JBpistons, Thunder Engineering aluminium conrods 157 mm, oil end feed conversion, SRM full race camshaft, Panzon iginition, tony Hayward Beltdrive, race clutch springs, AMAL consentrics 32 mm, 9:1 in compression.... igition at 30 degrees.

bike runs good, starts easily, runs strong, and there should be more power to gain, by increasing the compression to 10 or 10,5 and also bigger carburettors on 36 mm would do good. Panzon ignition,

so far I have push the engine to 6000 r/min, not sure how much more it can take....


Onlly strange thing I cant sort out is the kick back at starting, I had this issue with the bike as a 650 ccm to, since then the ignition is changed from Boyer to Panzon, crank is changed ....I experimented with ignition and carurettors, but its still there,, nasty and mean.....

I actually have to put the bike on the central stand, and stand on the bike, on the footrests when Im kicking, kicking and carefully beeing ready for the kick back...all the time... strange.

excellent news, how did you resolve the head gasket issues in the end.

Hello Gavin Eisler

I used a product from Permatex called "copper gasket sealer"
Its likely that other gasket sealers would work too.

In my first try (when I had leakage) I dint use gasket sealer at all, only copper gaskets and the steel spacer.

Another thing to be aware is that with so big bores its nessecary to also seal the head studs/nuts, as the compression inevitable leaks to the channels for the headstuds. Its close to nothing between the channels and the combustionchamber in a big bore cylinder.

Hello Alan Gill

I can not give you excact answer yet, as I dont have the bike computer for precise speed measuremnets fitted yet. My Smith speedo is not to precise.

But your estimate is close, I had roughly 5000 at 150 km/h.

As the engine is till breaking inn (by the way do you know whats reccomended as normal braking inn distance ?) I havent stressed the bike to much, but yesterday I took it to 6000 in second gear, and from 5500 its started to change sound into a decent roar... smile

60 km should be enough to brake it in smile
Seriously I would consider it broken in after 500 km, if you utilize the form of braking popular on the forum.

had 170 km/h today its around 6000. engine runs good, still feels like has a looot of power to go, and still have 32 mm AMAL. assuming 36 mm flatslide Mikunis will make the bike even stronger.

And finally sorted out the kick back problem. It was the battery, I connected a car battery and it suddenly starts smooth as butter.

As I have 14, 5 to 15 volt running without lights, I suspect my power box (charging regulator) and the 180 w generator is making the batteries I have used boiling. I also had a leakage current before but that was sorted out with a main switch.

I tried the Spitfire today aginst a Norton Commando 920 with sharper camshafts (4s I belive) and Mikuni flatside 36.

We was even .... wink
