Hello, new member, first topic. I have a 1938 Norton Special with a model 50 engine and Dolls Head box. Can anyone tell me the torque settings for the alloy cylinder head, also it looks like I will need some seals for the gearbox as it is leaking. Anyone know of any parts suppliers. I'm in the UK.

I'm trying to get a manual/parts list for both, but haven't managed yet.

Thanks, John

Norvil: http://www.norvilmotorcycle.co.uk/
Pushrod Peformance: http://www.pushrod-performance.co.uk/services.htm

RGM Motors?: http://www.rgmmotors.co.uk/ or Mick Hemmings?: http://www.mhm.demon.co.uk/ may have some parts for singles?

Or there's the spares scheme, available to NOC members: http://www.nortonownersclub.org/ >Spares>Single cylinder

Hi,
is it an alternator or late mag-dyno engine (i.e pushrod tubes in head)? I have used the figure quoted by BMW for the /5 twins which have slmilar long studs with relatively fine threads:-

Stage 1: 1.5 mkp / 10.8 ft/lb
Stage 2: 3.5 mkp / 25.3 ft/lb
Final Stage: 3.9 mkp / 28.2 ft/lb

IMHO though it is more important with these engines to tighten them evenly than to try to achieve some notional torque figure,
10, 20 and 30 ft/lbs would do OK.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the help - I've found some engine bits from Norvil. I was going to torque the head to 26 so I wasn't too far out.
