I am totally devastated by this news, I'm coming over to stay with Lannis in October with some of my BSA mates, and with permission from Lannis I had asked Tarvin to join us all. He was a fantastic bloke, one of them people who once met are friends for life. A true Gentleman, and I might be 46 but I don't mind admitting I'm crying like a child writing this, Tarvin was quite a guy and I'll be forever sorry that we'll never be able to eat around that camp fire ever again.

PLEASE Ron or Rich, send my condolences to Tarvin's family, and let them know he made a BIG impact on this Englishman. He'll NEVER be forgotton...

Tarvin Porter sir, it was an honour to have met you.

Ron, thanks for starting this thread....I sure couldn't do it.

Ron & I will be going to visitation tomorrow. We were planning on printing this out and giving it to the family.

Arrangements will be made for flowers from the Brit Bike community when the shops open today.

And we have discussed establishing a memorial trophy in his name for the OVBSAOC bike show. Tarvin was a big supporter of OVBSAOC and always participated in the bike show.

And to keep the pictures of him going...here is one at Brimfield in 2006 between his 2 Gold Stars, doing some minor fettling. 2 well built bikes built by a meticolous builder....Tarvin.

[Linked Image]

And at OVBSAOC spring meet, 2006, entertaining A10 John's daughters and cooking sausages over the fire. Tarvin loved to cook and eat at the events......If you don't think he is enjoyng himself, check out that grin laugh .

You'll miss his smile
You'll miss his heart
You'll miss many a mile
That won't get it's start

But one thing for sure
You won't have to repeat
If there's a Gold Star in heaven
It won't miss a beat

My condolences to his family. He seemed so young. I'm sorry to say that I never got a chance to know him, although we met at Mid-O this year.

Damn. Had the chance to chat with Tarvin over the past few years and really enjoyed talking to him. He always struck me as a really mellow Kat and just a nice fellow. I am so sorry for his family.

I never had a chance to meet Tarvin in person, but I read his post all the time on the Forum. I consider each one on this forum a personal friend even though I will never meet many of you. Why? Because we have one of the greatest hobbies around keeping our dreams of long ago alive and passing this on to the future generations. I send my condolences to the family. Ride on my friend. It is great to see the responses from all of you, and it brings back many fine memories with Tarvin. I will print out this thread and bring it with me to the visitation for his family. They should see how many friends Tarvin cultivated and the high reguard his friends felt for him.

It makes it even sadder that we will no longer enjoy his future company.

Everyone,

I just read the sad news. Tarvin and I never met, but exchanged e-mails, and when I saw the announcement, I was, as were you all, very shocked. Life is a fickle mistress---who knows why. But it brings tears to my eyes reading the many messages here, and perhaps oddly, it brings joy to my heart knowing that there are so many wonderful people out there, who care for their friends so much.

I'm sure Tarvin would be slightly embarrassed at the attention, but I think all of you guys are just wonderful, and I know his family will appreciate hearing from everyone.

Rest in Peace, friend Tarvin. Rest in Peace.

We had the pleasure of knowing Tarvin on the buttons, then we had the much greater pleasure of meeting and spending time with him last year, after a brief meeting at Brimfield saw more of him at Ohio Valley BSAOC Rally.

Barb,

Wish you had had the pleasure of meeting Tarvin.

Everyone who met him took to him right away with his ready smile and friendly unassuming manner. And he was always there to help with that nice smile on his face. No wonder his passing brought many grown men to tears including myself even though my only encounters with him were at Mid Ohio.

Damn

the first time I met Tarvin, I was traveling and had a mechanical problem. I had his phone number because we were to meet at a later time.

He drove 90 miles out of his way to bail out someone he had never met.

I'm thinking of the ride next to him, behind Ron, when Tarvin almost fell off his Goldie because he was laffing so hard.

I am sitting here just numb feeling. I never new Tarvin personally only from the site and just recently through email as he wanted some machine work done on some goldstar parts he said Rich and Ron had recommended he send the parts to me according to his email. He had sent the parts and the news of his passing came before I could let him know the parts had arrived here ok. I will be getting in touch with Rich and Ron about this as I am sure that they know what Tarvin had planned and may or may not want to finish it for him.
Please send my condolences to the family. After reading the posts from the ones that new him I feel slighted for not having known him personally.
Ed
