I have located a 1956 Speed Twin project I hope to look at this weekend... I have not seen it yet but a rough description follows: Frame, forks, wheels (rusty), tank, engine (stuck), trans, primary. Tank looks nice from the third party description i have. I know it's a lot to ask from the poor description... assuming that's all there is, what would be the least any of you would offer sight unseen? The current owner is out of town until the weekend or I'd have better info... help help help

Edited to correct year model of bike.

Is there an asking price on the table? It would be nice to know what ball park he's in before making an offer. :g:

Steve... this will slot nicely into the space left by the departed B25; well away from honeydo land. wink Blap... she's sympathetic to my addic...err... hobby; as long as I do not exceed three or so at a time it's OK. gs750... owner won't give a firm price but indicates he's open to offers... I'm a bit out of my comfort zone with the earlier bikes and I can't even look until the weekend... was looking for a broad wild a$$ guess as to what might be a reasonable starting price. I have no grasp what these things bring either in boxes, or complete; I do not wish to insult the guy with a lowball offer, or of course, pay too much. Thanks for speculating with me! beerchug

The restored or all there and running bike is a value. Lets just say that one like this Aborted auction 250231593022 was worth it's starting price. 7,500 minus the cost of making it a road worthy bike.Deductions of a thousand dollars at a time for the basics like wheel work, sheet metal work, engine work, paint work have you down to a decent base price right away. Look up the price for some sheet metal before you go to see it. It's nothing to spend 2500 on sheet metal alone. Always remember to buy it right all other mistakes are easy to fix.

For a non running, rusty project that will clearly need a ton of work, and probably a good few dollars to restore properly, I wouldn't hesitate to lowball the guy and see what happens. Offer a $1000. If his eyes get all squinty and he starts reaching for his concealed weapon then you're too low! You have to start negotiating somewhere, and it's my experience that, after the first offer, talking gets a little easier and real numbers appaer much more readily. Hell, he may not even know what he wants for it until he hears what he doesn't want for it!

i have watched nice tanks go for 900 dollars, check the bottom for good mounting threads, i also saw not so nice tanks go for 400, then they needed 800 dollars to make them nice,200 for a decent frame, 300 for a motor, does it have a mag and generator, another 200, rusty wheels are cheap, the primarys if nice bring 200 for the pair, a cheap tranny is another 100, so look at the value in individual components, like norbsa said any missing sheet metal will cost big time

trumpetloon,

offer him $500.00 right off the bat. He HAS to remember that with a stuck engine and all that is missing, it is going to take a few bucks to make it roadworthy. He doesn't need to know if you want to restore it. You just want to ride :bigt: and have had a couple of Triumphs before wink .Just looking to get back on the road with a good ol' Triumph.

I've had success with this method. Once the $500.00 is out, then the negotiating ( if there is any) can start. Good luck, hope you get it.

I don't know about the $500, just might tick him off. Odds are he has an idea of a bottom price.
